Practical Session 2 - Update

We appreciate how much the cancellation of our exams has affected learners And we are working hard on solutions to ensure learners can gain their qualifications at the earliest opportunity.

However, on the basis of official and local advice we will be cancelling Session 1 Practical exams scheduled for October - December. We are very sorry for the impact on teachers and candidates and we will continue to monitor the situation. Thank you for your loyalty and support while these restrictions remain in place.

We will be gradually rolling out remotely-assessed Performance Grades https://gb.abrsm.org/en/performancegrades/ internationally starting before the end of 2020 and will share exam dates and booking periods soon.

Music Theory Exam update – session one

On the basis of government advice, we are cancelling the Music Theory exams due to take place later in 2020. We are sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your ongoing loyalty and support.

Studies (from 2020)

Studies are an important way to develop technical skills such as stick control, balance between hands and articulation. They also help to develop tone, pulse and dynamic control, familiarity with rudimental patterns and interval awareness. This leads to greater confidence and security when sight-reading, learning new pieces and performing.

For Snare Drum and Timpani exams, candidates prepare two studies at each grade and examiners will request which one is to be played in the exam.
